Affordable international trips from Pune: 7 easy first holidays abroad

Wat Arun temple on the Chao Phraya river in Bangkok

People in Pune search for the “cheapest international trip from Pune” more than almost any other overseas phrase. The good news: some of the best first holidays abroad are short flights away, with simple visas and good-value hotels.

How you will fly

Pune has a few direct international flights, and Mumbai, about three to four hours away by road, has many more. We compare both, so you get the best mix of price and convenience.

Visa basics

Several of these destinations have made entry easier for Indian travellers, with online visas, visa on arrival or visa-free stays. Nepal does not need a visa for Indians at all. Dubai needs a visa arranged before you fly (see our Dubai visa checklist). Rules change often, so we confirm the current requirements for your dates before you book.

What really drives the cost

  • Flights: usually the biggest cost. Booking six to eight weeks ahead and avoiding Diwali, Christmas and the May holidays makes a big difference
  • Season: shoulder months are often much better value than peak weeks
  • Hotels: a well-located 3★ or 4★ hotel is usually the sweet spot
  • Visa and insurance: small, but plan for them
  • Taxes: overseas tour packages attract GST and TCS. TCS can be adjusted against your income tax

Before you go

  • Passport valid for at least six months from your return date
  • A forex card or some local currency for the first day
  • Travel insurance that covers medical costs and cancellation
